# For parents

KlassApp reaches you on **WhatsApp** — the app already on most phones — so you don’t need another school login for everyday questions.

Built for real constraints: low bandwidth, everyday devices, and schools that need parents informed without forcing a new app install.

***

## How you get connected

1. Your child’s school uses KlassApp.
2. You are linked as a parent (the school approves a link request, or staff add your number).
3. You message the school’s WhatsApp business number and use the menu / short commands.

There is **no separate parent app required** for these WhatsApp flows. Some schools also offer a parent web portal after linking — ask your school what’s enabled.

## What you can ask (typical)

Exact wording depends on the school’s WhatsApp menu, but common asks include:

| Ask                  | Typical reply                                     |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| **Fees**             | Balances and what’s outstanding                   |
| **Grades / results** | Latest published marks                            |
| **Attendance**       | Recent attendance summary                         |
| **Report** | Report-card PDF when the school has published one |

Messages are individual (not a parent group chat). Your number is not shown to other parents.

## Privacy & opt-out

* Schools control who is linked to which student.
* You can ask the school to update your number if you change phones.
* Opt-out / preference options are offered in the WhatsApp flow where enabled — ask the school if you need messages paused.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://klassdocs.gitbook.io/klassapp-documentation/docs/community/for-parents.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
