# Add students and parents

· 10 minutes

## Add students

Add one student, or import a spreadsheet. Parents are stored with the student.

### Before you start

Classes need to exist so each student has a class. Set those in the [Wizard](https://github.com/KlassApp-Foundation/KlassApp/tree/main/help/admins/onboarding/README.md), on **Structure & Class Teachers**, or later under . **Classes and streams** is on the school admin menu only.

### On the Students page

In the menu, choose . The page heading is **Students**.

Choose Add student. The form heading is **Add Student**. Enter the name, the class, and the parent phone numbers, then save.

Choose Import list. The import page heading is **Import**.

Choose Download Sample Format, fill the file, and upload it. The class belongs in the file. A row with a class the school does not have is skipped. Then choose Import.

**Import list** does not paste a chat list. Paste is only inside the Wizard, on the **Students** step: **Paste names (one per line)**, then **Add from paste**. Pick the class in that step before you paste.

### What happens next

Teachers see the student in their class. Parents link on WhatsApp, and you approve them on [Link requests](https://github.com/KlassApp-Foundation/KlassApp/tree/main/help/admins/link-requests/README.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://klassdocs.gitbook.io/klassapp-documentation/docs-site/help/add-students.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
